A Letter from Mother Mary Bethany
On the solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 16, 2017, Sister Bella Maria of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, OCD, pronounced her solemn vows during a Mass in the monastery chapel. Father Gerald Werner, OCD, former provincial of the California-Arizona Province, was the main celebrant and homilist. Concelebrating were the monastery’s chaplain, Fr. Tom Timmins, CSSP, and Fr. Joseph Shea of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Simi Valley, California. Father Shea had received Sister Bella Maria into the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil of 2010, and had encouraged her vocation from the beginning. The chapel was filled to overflowing, with Carmelite Secular Order members, the Carmelite Auxiliary members, and many of Sister Bella’s family members in attendance…also so many of you, our dear friends, some stretching back to our days in Sacramento, some newly made here in Georgetown. The atmosphere of joy carried over to the reception, and through the visiting hours with friends and family. The Carmelite Nuns are very grateful to all of you for your friendship and support, and feel renewed in their desire to give their lives for the needs of the Church, and the People of God. Thank you for helping that day to be a very grace-filled one for everyone concerned.
